Shaw scores on return to squad for Women’s FA Cup after racist, misogynistic abuse
MANCHESTER, England — Manchester City striker Khadija “Bunny” Shaw has made a triumphant return, scoring in Sunday’s Women’s FA Cup fifth-round match against Leicester after a brief break to focus on her mental wellbeing.
According to BBC Sport, the 28-year-old Jamaican withdrew from last Thursday’s League Cup semi-final against Arsenal following racist and misogynistic abuse she received on social media after City’s 4-3 loss to the Gunners in the Women’s Super League the previous week.
However, Shaw returned to the squad on Sunday for the Women’s FA Cup fifth-round match against Leicester at the Joie Stadium in Manchester, England.
Introduced at half-time, she scored her side’s third goal as she nodded home from close range, BBC Sport said.
City secured a comfortable 3-1 victory, with first-half goals from Leila Ouahabi and Kerolin Nicoli.
