Can Gaza bear the weight of an even greater cross?
Dear Editor,
To be able to witness a rare era steeped in unprecedented change is a true honour.
And that is what we are seeing as US President Donald Trump attempts to reshape and nullify archaic philosophies that have thrived on obstructing the aorta of the United States and other countries globally. His approach, whilst evidently difficult for a few to fathom, will ultimately transcend outworn realms of abuse, fear, and greed which invasively decays tenets of integrity.
Trump is unlike any figure I have encountered. He is a rare gem who has an insatiable appetite to conquer insurmountable odds, inviting quenching reprieve. I am beyond impressed with his stance on key economic, political, and social issues but profoundly saddened by his recent proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to neighbouring territories.
Gaza is home to a race that is simply no longer recognised by our world, outcasts to the vast sphere of humanity. The strip they occupy is approximately 25 miles long and eight miles wide yet it dwindles in size with the passing of each of its generations.
As far as one’s eyes can see there are no horizons in Gaza that promise the dawn of a better tomorrow. This wretched, protracted season knows no bounds. An inconceivable tension, based on race, has its genesis in 1948. Over 70 years of turmoil, a victim of masochistic pleasures which casually reigns within every pillar of their world. A sufferance, whose womb relentlessly births systematic animus, venom of death, and posturing ideologies that assures an unforgiving and persistent onslaught on its bairns.
The Palestinians tarry where no one finds solace or self. A miscarriage of justice that recurs, yielding sheer misery and agony that reaps only dejection. There are no dreams that are realised in Gaza.
Can they bear the weight of an even greater cross? I beseech, let’s retire the chokehold of displacement and the redundant cycle of sovereignty and cultivate a symbiotic union, restoring enduring equilibrium and the revolutionary stirrings of vigour among its people. Other nations are willing to work with the Gazans, strength by strength. I am desperately imploring the US to execute the former strategy. Make no unhurried decisions until you have taken a first-hand glance at Ground Zero.
As Sun Tzu states, “Even the finest sword plunged into saltwater will rust.’’ Myopic, ignorant mindsets must be retired and tolerance courted.
