Another One announces his arrival with dazzling debut
The racing community is abuzz with excitement as three-year-old bay colt Another One
(Aveenu Malicainu – Chinitagoodaz) made a striking debut in the $1.05-million Mercury Sprint on Sunday, February 9, 2025.
Trained by Anthony Nunes and ridden by Shane Ellis,Another One delivered a superb performance, annihilating his rivals by an impressive 9 ½ lengths in the maiden special weight contest for native-bred three-year-old colts and geldings.
In a display of calculated speed and power, Another One devoured the 5-furlong (1,000m) straight course, stopping the clock in a blistering 59.0 (23.4 x 46.1). The victory was so convincing that Ellis was able to ease Another One down for most of the way, cruising home on a common canter. Alchemy of Souls (Jerome Innis) finished second and Uncle Baba (Javaniel Patterson) finished third.
While thrilled with Another One’s dazzling debut, Nunes tempered his enthusiasm with a dose of reality.
“[Obviously] It looks better than it is,” Nunes cautioned.
“I mean, the track was fast, the breeze was behind him, and he was running against poor competition. It was the perfect world to make him look like he is something special, but time will have to tell,” Nunes told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
Nunes acknowledged that Another One has shown talent in morning workouts, but he’s unsure how far the colt will go.
“He seems to have a lot of speed, but we’ll have to wait and see. His is by a nice sire who is a son of
Into Mischie, so he’s got a good pedigree. He could be anything, we will wait and see,” Nunes said.
With characteristic humility, Nunes emphasised that Another One still has much to prove. “Time will tell,” he said. “He’ll need to get better as he faces stiffer competition. We’ll take it one step at a time and see how he develops.”
