Rising Star: American Aviator soars to victory in debut run
While the future of young horses is inherently uncertain, early indications suggest that three-year-old American-bred dark bay/brown colt American Aviator (American Freedom – Marks Miss) is a talented prospect with immense potential.
Making his debut on Saturday, February 8, 2025 in the $1.1-million Restricted Allowance II contest for native-bred three-year-olds (non-winners of two) and imported three-year-olds and upward (maiden) over 5 ½ furlong (1,100m), American Aviator made one move to beat rivals by 2 ½ lengths. Showing his speed and agility, the Jason DaCosta trainee won in a smooth 1:07.3 (23.3 x 47.4 x 1:00.3).
This talented prospect has immense potential, and many are eagerly awaiting his next move. With his preliminary performances sending a buzz through the racing community, American Aviator is definitely one to watch.
With Robert Halledeen in the saddle, American Aviator broke sharply at the start, narrowly edging out stablemate RicoRicoRico (Raddesh Roman) and setting the pace for the rest of the field. As the pack approached the half-mile (800m) mark, American Aviator shifted into high gear, effortlessly increasing his lead and leaving his rivals in the dust.
Turning for home, he maintained a commanding advantage, and despite a late surge from RicoRicoRico, American Aviator cruised across the finish line with ease. RicoRicoRico took second place, with My Eclipse (Oshane Nugent) rounding out the top three.
