Falmouth take lead as Reno drop points in JFF Championship

Falmouth United took over the lead in Zone B of the Jamaica Football Federation Championship on Saturday after beating St Bess United 1-0 in the second game of a double header at the Lacovia Community Centre in St Elizabeth.

Falmouth United joined former leaders Reno FC on 10 points but are ahead because they have scored more goals. Westmoreland-based Reno’s perfect winning start ended after they were held goalless by visitors Treasure Beach at Llandilo Sports Complex.

Lime Hall FC, also on 10 points, lead Zone A after their 2-0 win over Grays Inn at St Mary Sports Complex.

At Lacovia, Jordan Brown scored a 70th-minute penalty for Falmouth United to record their third victory in a row.

Falmouth United have scored seven goals, two more than Reno FC. Both teams have the same goal difference of four.

Duncans United moved up to third place in the group on seven points after their 2-0 win over Mount Pleasant FA juniors at Drax Hall.

Duncans United led 1-0 at half-time after Terron Eccleston scored in the 28th minute before Javaun Jarrett added a second goal in the second minute of second-half stoppage time.

Lime Hall FC brushed aside Grays Inn 2-0 to maintain their place at the top of Zone A with 10 points. Carlos Campbell scored in the 32nd minute and Ronaldo Hanson doubled the advantage in the 60th.

Meadforest FC are in second place after coming from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with hosts Tru-Juice at Dinthill Technical in Linstead. The home team finished the game with nine players as Dayshaniel Russell and Seivon Thompson were both sent off in time added.

Damion Herrera gave Tru-Juice the lead in the 21st minute and Curtel Lawes made it 2-0 in the 39th, but Meadforest FC drew a goal back in the 68th, and Raheem Porter scored the equaliser in the 74th.

Rodian Reece scored a late brace for Baptist Alliance, who came from a goal down to beat Spanish Town Police 2-1 at Royal Lakes Sports Complex.

Shemar Harris gave Spanish Town Police the lead when he scored in the 45th minute, his second goal of the season. But Reece pulled Baptist Alliance level in the 80th minute before scoring the winner in the 86th.

Kerone George of Portlanders FC and O’brien Reid of Progressive FC both scored hat-tricks in the high-scoring Zone A game at Lynch Park. Portlanders FC prevailed 4-3 for their first win of the season.

Portlanders FC raced to a 3-1 lead after 18 minutes, with George scoring in the sixth, 13th, and 18th, while Reid has temporarily made it 2-1 when he scored his first in the 15th.

Reid scored his second goal in the 39th minute as Progressive FC cut the deficit to one goal.

But Cardiff McKenzie restored Portlanders FC’s two-goal lead when he found the net in the 89th minute. Reid completed his hat-trick with a goal four minutes into time added, but Portlanders held on for the win.

Petersfield FC scored their first win of the season, beating Holland PYC 2-0 at Lacovia Community Centre.

O’Shawn Neil and Deno Whyte each scored for Holland PYC.
