Easy Money makes winning debut at Caymanas Park
EASY Money, a promising three-year-old chestnut colt, made an encouraging debut at Caymanas Park on Saturday, February 15, 2025. Trained by renowned conditioner Anthony Nunes and ridden by seasoned jockey Shane Ellis, Easy Money delivered an impressive performance to win the $1.05-million Non-Restricted Maiden Condition Race for native-bred three-year-olds over five furlongs (1,000m) round.
In the six-horse field Easy Money, bred by Sunshine N Shadow out of the Outflanker mare Midnight in Paris, dominated the competition, crossing the finishing line a length and a quarter ahead of stablemate
Brahma Bull, ridden by Tevin Foster. Never Despair, with Dane Dawkins in the saddle, secured third place while another Nunes-trained horse, Brompton Boy, piloted by Reyan Lewis, completed the frame. The winning time was 1:02.1 (24.3 x 49.0)
Nunes expressed satisfaction with the performances of his three horses, emphasising that they had run in line with their workout preparations.
“The horses ran as they worked, and they’re very similar in ability,” Nunes noted in an interview with the
Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“I’m pleased with them but they have a lot of maturing to do. Natural improvement and maturation will come, and they should get better,” he added.
Breaking from the number one post position, Easy Money burst into the lead, relegating Brompton Boy,
Native Flyer (Phillip Parchment), and Never Despair to chasing roles as they navigated the half-mile (800m) turn. Maintaining a comfortable advantage, Easy Money approached the distance with ease and turned for home with a strong lead. Although he began to tire slightly inside the final furlong, Easy Money had built a sufficient cushion to hold on for a convincing victory on his debut.
