Easy win expected for Tiz Tok in ‘Lindy’ Delapenha Memorial
Tiz Tok, a highly touted five-year-old American-bred bay horse trained by renowned conditioner Anthony Nunes, is expected to deliver a scintillating performance and easily win the Lloyd Lindbergh “Lindy” Delapenha Memorial Trophy feature at Caymanas Park
today.
The Tiz Now – Weekend Prospect offspring made his local debut in last year’s ultra-rich Mouttet Mile on December 7, finishing a respectable fifth by four and three-quarter lengths behind Funcaandun, Legacy Isle, Commandant, and Further and Beyond. Although he was expected to be much competitive then,
Tiz Tok’s performance was commendable, considering he was racing on local soil for the first time against the very best horses in the island.
In the United States, Tiz Tok has won four times from 18 starts, demonstrating his class and ability. Now, dropping down in class, Grade One company to the Non-Restricted Overnight Allowance level, Tiz Tok is poised to assert his dominance over his lesser-rated rivals.
Tiz Tok’s preparation for this assignment has been impressive, with two bullet workouts in recent weeks. On Tuesday, February 11, he clocked a smooth 1:26.1 for seven furlongs (1,400m), and followed up with a scintillating 1:13.0 for six furlongs (1,200m) on Monday. These workout times suggest that Tiz Tok is in tip-top shape and ready to deliver a crushing victory.
Given his superior class, impressive workout times, and the fact that he is facing much weaker opposition,
Tiz Tok is expected to brush aside his rivals with ease and secure his first win on local soil. The only question on everyone’s mind is his distance of victory.
The one mile (1,600m) contest for three-year-olds and upward is positioned as the ninth and final race on the card with a post time of 5:35 pm, but the first race is at 12:15 pm.
As Tiz Tok prepares to dominate the Lloyd Lindbergh “Lindy” Delapenha Memorial Trophy feature, the only question on everyone’s mind is who will emerge as the worthy runner-up. The spotlight shines on three promising contenders: Sheer Delight, D Head Cornerstone, and Burning Hedge.
Sheer Delight, the American-bred runner, is looking to redeem himself after a disappointing 14th-place finish in the Mouttet Mile on December 7. Despite that lacklustre performance, his timely preparation for this seasonal debut suggests a much-improved showing is on the horizon.
D Head Cornerstone, another seasonal debutant, is also vying for that coveted second spot. His last outing on December 24 in the Christopher Armond Sprint saw him finish sixth by seven lengths, but this galloping trip is expected to play to his strengths, making him a competitive force for that second money here.
Burning Hedge, a talented three-year-old chestnut filly, is making her seasonal debut with a reputation to uphold. Her victory in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes on Boxing Day last year, when she won by seven lengths in 1:41.2, has generated buzz about her potential. Although this marks her stiffest competition to date, Burning Hedge is poised to make a lasting impression.
