Cavalier rally to beat Chapelton Maroons 2-1 in JPL

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Defending champions Cavalier FC rallied with two late goals to beat Chapelton Maroons 2-1 in their Jamaica Premier League second-round game played at the Waterhouse Mini Stadium in Drewsland on Sunday.

Cavalier FC trailed 1-0 at halftime after Neshawn Bennett gave Chapelton Maroons the lead in the 25th minute but Jalmaro Calvin scored the equaliser in the 69th minute, his 12th goal of the season before Shaquille Stein got the winner in the 83rd minute.

The win saw Cavalier FC take over fourth place in the points tables on 44 points after Portmore United were beaten 1-0 by Waterhouse FC who snapped a six-game win-less run.

Andre Fletcher’s 40th-minute free kick was enough for Waterhouse FC as they stayed in sixth place in the tables.

Racing United have improved their unbeaten run to nine games after outscoring Molynes United 3-2 in their game played at Ferdie Neita Park, avenging their first-round loss.

Nickyle Ellis scored a double, in the 35th and 47th minutes after Stevaughn Spence had given Racing the lead in the sixth minute as the Anthony Patrick-coached team raced to a 3-0 lead.

Molynes staged a mini comeback, however, Peter McGregor scored in the 53rd minute and Marlon Pennicooke cut the deficit to just one goal in the 75th minute.

Dunbeholden FC won their third consecutive game, holding off Humble Lion 3-2, coming from behind at Dunbeholden Sports Complex.

Stephen Barnett had given Humble Lion the lead in the 23rd minute before Devonti Hodges dew Dunbeholden FC level at 1-1 in the 49th minute.

Dean Andre Thomas made it 2-1 in the 53rd minute and Dwight Merrick added a third in the 59th minute before Deonjay Brown scored in the 74th minute to make the scores 3-2.

At the Harbour View mini stadium, the home team rallied from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw against Tivoli Gardens who got off to a fast start and led 2-0 after 15 minutes.

Alton Lewis gave Tivoli Gardens the lead after just five minutes before Anthony Nelson doubled the advantage in the 15th minute.

Chidalu Chukwuemeka halved the deficit for Harbour View when he scored in the 50th minute before Trayvone Reid scored the equaliser in the 71st minute.
