The Jamaica Rifle Association (JRA) successfully hosted the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) Grand Prix series last weekend. The year-long series, running concurrently with the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Grand Prix series, showcased incredible talent across multiple divisions, making for an action-packed day at the range.

Similarly to the IPSC version, five divisions were on display as live fire dominated the range on Saturday afternoon.

The divisions shot were Limited, Production, Open, Limited Optics, and Carry Optics. When the Range Master Rohan Wilson published the scores at 6:00 pm on Saturday, Ryan Bramwell was on top of the score sheet, topping the Limited Optics division with a very safe 789 match points, ahead of Petrano Belafonte (705). Marlon Stephenson, who only missed the target three times out of 160 shots, was a distant third place with 513 points.

In the production division, the scores were much closer as World Shoot hopeful Anthony Johnson took the top spot with 709 points, ahead of Josimar Clarke and Rohan Wallace, who had 706 and 640 match points, respectively.

The hotly contested big guns in the open division saw a usually consistent Alrice Palmer being forced to settle for third behind division winner Alvin Amore and second-placed Ekpedeme Otuokon.

Thomas Jones was again on the podium as he iron sighted a brilliant 737 match points win in the absence of Darin Richards, who was busy shooting his way into the top spot in the Miami Open handgun shoot-off on the same day.

Chris Hart bulleted to the top of the popular Carry Optics division ahead of Robin Rickhi and Dufton Shepherd.

As the JRA team prepares for the world shoot in South Africa later this year, nine competitors are set to travel to the Panama open Handgun Championships next month.

Three of Jamaica’s best female pistol competitors, Shayon Francis, Yeonie Campbell, and Sasha-Gay Mullings, are expected to travel with that team.

The National Grand Prix series is to continue next month at the Mountain View Avenue Range with the International Practical Shooting Confederation version set to be shot over 10 exciting stages.
