Shaquena Foote wins Mountain West Indoor double

KINGSTON, Jamaica- Shaquena Foote of San Diego State won the women’s 200m/400m double at the Mountain West Conference Indoor championships held at the Albuquerque Convention Center, Albuquerque, New Mexico on Saturday, both in new personal best times.

The former Petersfield High standout, defended her 400m title where she set a new school record and meet record of 51.48 seconds before taking the 200m in which she was third a year ago.

Meanwhile, Brianna Lyston of Louisiana State failed to defend her SEC 60m title as she was beaten into second place while Dejanae Oakley of the University of Georgia ran a massive personal best 50.90 seconds in the women’s 400m, third best all time by any Jamaican.

Foote who was named the Most Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet, broke her previous personal best and school record of 52.42 seconds to win the 400m and also broke the championships record of 51.73 seconds.

Less than an hour later she won the 200m in 22.89 seconds, moving two places up to second on the San Diego State rankings and beating her previous best of 23.22 seconds, set earlier this year.

At the SEC Indoors held at Texas A&M University, Lyston who won the NCAA 60m title last year, equaled her season’s best 7.13 seconds to place second while Carleta Bernard of Texas ran a personal best 7.25 seconds for fifth.

Oakley finished fourth in the women’s 400m in a stunning 50.90 seconds, well under her previous best of 51.75 seconds, and third best by any Jamaican over the distance.

Luke Brown of the University of Kentucky set a new personal best and school record of 16.87m for second in the men’s triple jump with Apalos Edwards of the University of Arkansas finishing fourth in a season’s best 16.61m.

Nia Robinson, also of Arkansas was fifth in the women’s triple jump, equaling her personal best 13.41m.

Jaheim Stern of LSU was third in the men’s 60m hurdles in a new best of 7.57 seconds while Vashaun Vascianna of Arkansas who led after the preliminaries, was eighth.

Reigning NCAA champion Rivaldo Marshall of Arkansas was third in the men’s 800m in 1:48.31 seconds while Kimar Farquharson of Texas A&M was seventh in 1:50.24 seconds.

Olympian Ralford Mullings of the University of Oklahoma was third in the men’s shot put with 19.71m while Trevor Gunzell of the University of Alabama was sixth with 18.88m.

Jordani Woodley and Neisha Burgher, both of the University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP) were in record breaking form at the Conference USA Indoor championships held at Liberty University in Virginia.

Woodley retained his men’s 60m hurdles title in a new personal best 7.69 seconds, breaking the previous meet record of 7.77 seconds he shared with three others. He was also under the facility record of 7.71 seconds that was set by Jovaine Atkinson of Liberty in 2018. Burgher, who won two events, ran a meet record 22.73 seconds to take the women’s 200m title, breaking the 22.91 seconds set in 2013 by Aurueyall Scott of the University of Central Florida and the facility record of 22.96 seconds set in 2025 by Dana Wilson. Marissa Simpson was fifth in 24.16 seconds. Simpson also retained her women’s 60m hurdles title in 8.14 seconds with Kimeone McLeod of Louisiana Tech fifth in 8.43 seconds.

Burgher won the women’s 60m in 7.31 seconds, Simpson was seventh in 7.66 seconds and Denae McFarlane also of UTEP eighth.

Roschell Clayton of Villanova won her fourth Big East women’s high jump title with a season’s best 1.82m and was named the outstanding Field performer of the event with teammate Malaika Cunningham placing second with a season’s best 1.76m.

Demar Francis of Baylor University was second in the Big 12 men’s 200m in 20.61 seconds while Shemar Uter of hosts Texas Tech University was third in the men’s 400m in 45.77 seconds and Francis seventh in 46.20 seconds.

Brandon Lloyd of Arizona State placed sixth in the men’s shot put with 18.86m while Travis Williams of the University of Southern California placed second in the men’s 60m at the Big 10 Indoor Championships, running 6.59 seconds.

Rhianna Phipps of the University of Nebraska was third in the women’s triple jump with 13.37m and her teammate Velecia William was fifth with 13.13m while Safin Wills of the University of Oregon was fifth in the men’s triple jump with 15.70m.

Kobe Lawrence of Oregon placed fourth in the men’s shot put with 19.06m and Alliyah McNeil of the University of Minnesota was fifth in the women’s high jump with 1.80m.

Rushana Dwyer of the University of South Florida ran a personal best and school record 52.94 seconds to win the women’s 400m at the American Athletics Conference Indoor championships held in Birmingham, Alabama.

Shadae Findley of the University of Texas-San Antonio was second in 53.96 seconds.

Shevioe Reid of South Florida was second in the men’s 200m in a season’s best 20.96 seconds with his teammate Alexavier Monfries sixth in a personal best 21.31 seconds.

Devontie Archer, also of South Florida ran a personal best 46.97 seconds for third in the men’s 400m and Monfries was seventh, also running a personal best 47.82 seconds.

Gizel Clayton of the University of Memphis ran a personal best 8.28 seconds for fifth in the women’s 60m hurdles event.
