Steven Todd hits 300-win mark with Clowning Around

TRAINER Steven Todd stole the show at Caymanas Park on Saturday’s nine-race card, saddling his 300th career winner in the process. This milestone achievement came in the opening event, courtesy of five-year-old Clowning Around who was expertly ridden by former champion jockey Dane Dawkins.

Clowning Around’s thrilling victory was recorded in a Restricted Allowance V contest for native-bred five-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two) and imported five-year-olds and upward (maidens) over seven furlongs (1,400m). In a heart-stopping finish, Clowning Around rallied from behind to edge out Xylophonic Steel (Jerome Innis) and Blitz Strike (Reyan Lewis) by a mere nose, stopping the clock at 1:31.1 (24.1 x 48.4 x 1:16.2).

Todd’s achievement overshadowed an impressive three-win haul by champion jockey Raddesh Roman on the day.

Roman’s winners were Supernatural Power in the third race for trainer Philip Feanny; Sir John in the fourth race for trainer Delroy Wisdom; and Generational for trainer Adrian Prince in the seventh race.

Trainer Anthony Nunes and jockey Tevin Foster teamed up for two winners in Irish Wish (sixth race) and Immeasurable Joy (eighth race), respectively.

The $1.25-million Mabrouk Sprint Trophy feature race was won by the Spencer Chung-trained Champion Bubbler (Tajay Suckoo). Champion Bubbler won the Restricted Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward, over five furlongs (1,000m) straight, by two and three quarter lengths in 1:00.0. Cookie Day N Night (Dane Dawkins) finished second and Commander Z finished third.

Racing continues on Wednesday.
