KC, Excelsior retain Corporate Area Champs titles

KINGSTON College (KC) and Excelsior High School retained their Corporate Area Boys’ and Girls’ Championships at Ashenheim Stadium on Saturday.

KC, the reigning ISSA Boys’ champions, amassed 463 points to secure victory ahead of rivals Jamaica College (JC) with 414.5 points. They were followed by Calabar High (301 points), Wolmer’s Boys (174.5), Excelsior and St George’s College (96 each), Campion College (43), Ardenne High (25), Papine High (22), and Mona High (21).

In the girls’ category, Excelsior finished on 351 points, ahead of Immaculate Conception High (336 points). The top five were rounded out by Wolmer’s High School for Girls (286.5), Convent of Mercy (Alpha) Academy (236), and The Queen’s School (130.5). Other notable finishers were St Andrew High (104.5), Merl Grove High (84), Campion College and Papine High (45 each), Holy Childhood High (42), and Gaynstead High and St Andrew Technical High (21 each).

Wolmer’s Boys’ Gary Card and Wolmer’s Girls’ Abigail Wolfe were among the standout performers at the championships as they both captured the Class One sprint double titles.

Card, who won the 100m title on Friday, stormed to a meet record 20.53 seconds in the Class One 200m event. JC’s Omary Robinson (21.00) and Nathaniel Martin (21.12), both running personal bests, took second and third place, respectively.

Wolfe, fresh off her 100m victory, secured the 200m crown in 23.91 seconds, finishing ahead of Alpha’s Tashay Faulkner (24.23) and Immaculate’s Shevi-Anne Shim (24.24).

JC’s Malique Dennis dominated the Boys’ Class Two 200m, winning in 21.37 seconds, ahead of Campion’s Nasir McMorris (21.71) and Calabar’s Shaun Lewis (21.79).

In the Girls’ Class Two 200m final, Natrece East blazed to a meet record time of 23.65, finishing ahead of Breana Brown (24.28) and Kimberly Wright of Immaculate (24.62).

JC’s Makaelan Woods claimed victory in the Boys’ Class One 400m, clocking 47.72 seconds while just edging out KC’s Roshwan Lee (47.74) and Papine’s Jordan Fitzgerald (47.96).

The Girls’ Class One 400m was won by Davine Dickenson (55.90), ahead of Papine’s Sabrina McDonald (56.27) and Alpha’s Casey-Dee Fuller (57.01).

In the Boys’ Class One 400m hurdles Excelsior’s Kishawn Hoffman clocked a personal best 51.02 seconds to take gold, beating KC’s Taj-Oneil Gordon (51.17) and Wolmer’s Daniel Henry (52.58).

A few minutes earlier, Excelsior’s Halyncia Henry won the Girls’ Class One 400m hurdles in a personal best 1:01.65 minutes, ahead of Gaynstead’s Shakeya Reid (1:02.65) and St Andrew High’s Jodi-Ann Graham (1:03.29).

Wolmer’s Daniel Saunders set a personal best of 52.84 seconds to win the Boys’ Class Two 400m hurdles, beating Calabar’s Micah Willis (52.93) and JC’s Brucarri Lettman (54.17).

Calabar’s Omari Stewart established a personal best mark of 13.94m to win the Boys’ Class Two triple jump. Wolmer’s Roshane Francis secured silver with a leap of 13.49m, while KC’s Shyiem Phillip (13.22m) took bronze.

In the Boys’ Class One pole vault, Calabar’s Lenworth Chung soared to 4.00m to claim gold, finishing ahead of Wolmer’s Yewan Milligan (3.20m) and his teammate Leighton Johnson (3.30m).

Excelsior’s Gianna Clayton won the Girls’ Class One shot put with a throw of 13.51m while her teammate Katie Gordon secured silver with 11.70m.
