KINGSTON, Jamaica – A coalition of Christian advocacy organisations has condemned a death threat made against Dr Daniel Thomas, founder of the Love March Movement and director of the ‘40 Days for Life’ campaign, during a prayer protest against abortion in St Andrew.

Dr Thomas was leading a vigil along Ivy Green Crescent when the threat was issued.

The Jamaica Coalition for a Healthy Society, the Association of Christian Communicators and Media, Christians for Truth and Justice, and Chosen to G.L.O.W Ministries have called on authorities to protect citizens, including those participating in the ‘40 Days for Life’ initiative, as they exercise their constitutional right to peaceful assembly.

The ‘40 Days for Life’ campaign, a non-denominational movement held in over 60 countries, focuses on prayer, fasting, and educational outreach. In Jamaica, the vigil is being conducted in a public space near a medical facility in Cross Roads.

However, participants have faced hostility, including physical assault and damage to protest signs.

Helene Coley Nicholson, president of the Lawyers Christian Fellowship, noted that the recent confrontation is being closely monitored. She pointed out that the Love March Movement was involved in a recent coroner’s inquest into the death of a pregnant woman at a facility on Ivy Green Crescent, where the coroner ruled against two doctors. The individual who allegedly made the death threat against Dr Thomas was reportedly on the premises of the same facility.

Despite these incidents, organisers say the prayer protest will continue for its full 40-day duration. They also reported that since the first vigil in Kingston in 2024, 22 mothers and 23 babies have been assisted through the initiative.

It is unclear whether the police have launched an investigation into the alleged death threat.
