Title holders Manchester, many-time former champs STETHS win in Headley Cup
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Rain in rural Jamaica threatened to be a spoiler but top cricket-playing schools completed victories in last week’s round of games in the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association/Grace Headley Cup.
At Sir P Oval, defending champions Manchester High School beat Clarendon College by six wickets.
Kelon Jones, who took four for 19, and Demario Hall (3-18) were the leading bowlers for Manchester High as Clarendon College was dismissed for 83. Shakiel Walters led the Clarendon batting with 31.
Manchester High then reached 86 for four as Tesfah Ward made 22.
At St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), the home team defeated Dinthill Technical High by 133 runs after a wet pitch prevented play on the first day of the scheduled two-day game.
Jamaica age-group representatives, Tyreek Bryan (76) and Odane Binns, who made 58 not out, led the way as STETHS rushed to 164 for three declared against Jerome James (3-43). Maleek Spence then took 5-18 as Dinthill was skittled for 31.
At Black River High, Tacky High beat Black River High by six wickets. Aan Ennis took three wickets for six runs, Shevaughn Boyd (3-11), and Raekvon Renford (3-18) as Black River High made 95 all out.
Tacky High achieved victory at 96 for four as Tyson Gordon top scored with 47. He was supported by Devantae Miller, who made 20.
At Garvey Maceo High, Holmwood Technical High defeated their hosts by 184 runs. Holmwood first made 211 all out as Kevaughn Flemmings struck 56. For Garvey Maceo High, Emel Palmer and Devaney McIntosh took two wickets each.
Garvey Maceo High fell to 27 all out as Rickelme Ennis took five wickets for seven runs and Windel Bailey claimed 3-9.
