KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica is one of seven Caribbean countries that can now benefit from free international shipping via Amazon.

The US online retail giant recently launched AmazonGlobal Standard Shipping, offering free international delivery on purchases of eligible products, with a minimum spend of US$35 for Jamaican customers.

Jamaicans do not need to be subscribed to Amazon’s premium “Prime” service to take advantage of AmazonGlobal Standard Shipping.

Instead, customers must simply:

— Set their delivery address to an eligible country, then add at least the minimum amount required of eligible products in the shopping cart;

— The company says any “fulfilled by Amazon” item that indicates free shipping on the product detail or search results pages counts towards your free shipping order minimum;

— After adding the minimum, proceed to checkout, where the free AmazonGlobal Standard Shipping option will be selected automatically for customers who meet the eligibility requirement;

— Customers can then place their orders and will receive an estimated delivery date on the order summary page.

Amazon says customers can identify eligible items by the “FREE shipping” message on the product detail or search results pages, however, it noted that the AmazonGlobal Standard Shipping does not apply to items sold by third-party vendors.

The retailer also warned that items without free shipping do not count toward the minimum US$35 requirement and shoppers will be charged delivery fees for those items.

The other Caribbean countries also benefitting from the recent changes are Aruba, The Bahamas, Barbados, the Cayman Islands, the Dominican Republic, and Trinidad and Tobago. The list of 23 total countries includes several South and Central American countries like Panama and Chile, and Asian countries like Taiwan.
