30 killed in 27 fatal crashes in February says ITA
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Thirty people were killed in 27 fatal crashes during the month of February, according to the Island Traffic Authority (ITA).
This represents a 21 per cent decline in fatalities and a 16 per cent reduction in fatal crashes when compared to February 2024.
During the month, motorcyclists accounted for eight fatalities, four fewer than February 2024, and representing 27 per cent of the deaths during the month under review. Pedestrians accounted for 13 per cent of the road deaths, while private motor vehicle drivers accounted for 33 per cent, representing 10 fatalities.
Significantly, private motor vehicle driver fatalities have increased by 43 per cent or three, when compared to February 2024, while private motor vehicle passengers accounted for five fatalities, representing 17 per cent of road users killed during February 2025 said the ITA.
At the same time, private motor vehicle passenger fatalities have decreased by 29 per cent or two, when compared to February 2024.
Meanwhile, the parish of St Andrew recorded the most fatalities last month with seven. St James was next with five, followed by St Elizabeth with four and St Catherine with three.
Kingston, Westmoreland, Trelawny and Clarendon each recorded two deaths, while Hanover, Manchester and St Ann recorded one death each.
The three eastern parishes of Portland, St Mary and St Thomas were the safest in the country during the month of February, with zero fatalities on record.
