ST THOMAS, Jamaica—  One assault rifle was found in St Thomason Wednesday, while Two high-powered rifles were seized in Portland.

In St Thomas, a team of policemen seized an AK-47 assault rifle and 18 assorted rounds of ammunition.

Reports from the Morant Bay police are that between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm, during a search of the Stewart Field community, the rifle and ammunition were seen hidden inside a knitted bag in a PVC pipe buried along a riverbed.

No one was arrested in  connnection with the seizure.

Hours earlier in Portland, lawmen found two guns with magazines containing 50 rounds of ammunition during a search in Gurney district, Manchioneal.

Reports from the Manchioneal police are that about 2:00 am, lawmen carried out an operation at a premises in search of wanted men and during the search, the firearms and ammunition were seized. One man was arrested and taken into custody.

His identity is being withheld pending further investigation.
