Bednarek wins Short Sprint title, Seville third at Grand Slam Track in Kingston
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s Oblique Seville pocketed US$30,000 (J$4.7m) after finishing third overall in the Men’s Short Sprint while Ackeem Blake collected US$20,000 (J$3.1m) for his fifth-placed finish at the Grand Slam Track in Kingston on Saturday.
The 200m leg was won by Kenny Bednarek in an impressive 20.07. The American emerged overall champion with 24 points, having surprisingly won the 100m on Friday. Bednarek will receive US$100,000.
Britian’s Zharnel Hughes was second overall with 14 points after finishing second in the 200m in 20.37 and pocketed US$50,000. He was third in the 100m.
Seville started the day on eight points after finishing second in the 100m and his task was extremely difficult to beat the 200m specialist Bednarek who won the 100m on Friday. But he closed well for fifth in 20.43 but third overall with 12 points while Blake was in seventh in 20.68 and fifth overall with seven points.
