Rohan Watson, Rusheen McDonald and long jumper Ackelia Smith were the Jamaican winners at Saturday’s Miramar Invitational meet, a World Athletics Continental Tour-Silver meeting held at the Ansin Sports Complex in Florida.

Watson, a former national 100m champion and a finalist in the men’s 60m dash at last month’s World Athletics Indoor Championships in China, ran a wind-aided 9.99 seconds (2.7m/s) to win the men’s 100m after leading the qualification with 10.03 seconds (4.3m/s) earlier in the day. Yohan Blake was second with 10.06 seconds and Bryan Levell was fifth with 10.16 seconds (4.0m/s).

Rusheen McDonald won the rarely contested 300m race in 32.39 seconds. Smith meanwhile opened her outdoor jump season with 6.74m (0.0m/s) in the long jump while Tissana Hanson was fourth with a wind-aided 6.63m (3.6m/s).

Shericka Jackson ran a personal best 36.13 seconds in the women’s 300m, third best ever by a Jamaican behind Patricia Hall’s 35.69 seconds and Merlene Ottey’s 35.83 seconds. Julien Alfred of St Lucia won with 36.05 seconds, a national best mark.
