MBU seek revenge against Dunbeholden in JPL

MBU seek revenge against Dunbeholden in JPL

CATHERINE HALL, St James — Montego Bay United could return to second place in the points tables in the Jamaica Premier League today if they can avenge a second-round loss to Dunbeholden FC in their game set to start at 6:00 pm at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.

Montego Bay United and second-placed Arnett Gardens are tied on 66 points but the south St Andrew-based club holds the advantage going into the round of match, with a slight edge on goal-difference and a game in hand.

The Paul “Tegat” Davis-coached team has drawn their last three games and have missed two chances to overtake Arnett Gardens over the last two weeks.

They will be seeking to avenge a 2-0 loss away to Dunbeholden FC in the second round as the St Catherine-based club have not won in their last eight games and are hovering over the drop zone, in 10th place on 33 points; just four from safety.

Meanwhile, relegation-threatened Humble Lion will hope they can claim another ‘top-six scalp’ when they host fourth-placed Portmore United at Effortville Community Centre.

Humble Lion are unbeaten in their last four games including 3-1 wins over Cavalier SC and Arnett Gardens and will take on a Portmore United team struggling to score goals.

Portmore United will have a psychological edge as they have won their last four games against their Clarendon opponents including 1-0 and 2-1 victories this season.

Leaders Mt Pleasant FA are coming off a 3-0 win over Vere United on Thursday and a win today against Harbour View would see the east Kingston outfit join Vere United and Molynes United as teams eliminated from play-off contention.

Harbour View are in 11th place on 32 points and only just above the relegation zone.

Defending champions Cavalier FC should make it three wins over Vere United this season and snap a three games winless run that sees them on 50 points and in fifth place, only three points away from sixth-placed Tivoli Gardens.

Cavalier FC have also struggled to score goals over the last five or six games but will be up against the second worst defence in the league today as Vere United allowed 65 goals so far.

In the other game scheduled, Waterhouse FC will take on Molynes United in the first game of a double header at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex and will hope to collect maximum three points and a place in the top six, even for 24 hours before Tivoli Gardens play.

Sunday’s Matches

Molynes United vs Waterhouse FC at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex – 3:00 pm

Humble Lion vs Portmore United at Effortville Community Centre – 3:30 pm

Mt Pleasant FA vs Harbour View FC at Drax Hall Sports Complex – 3:30 pm

Cavalier FC vs Vere United at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex – 5:30 pm
