ERROL “Jiggs” Ennis, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Portland Western, who also served as a state minister in the Ministry of Finance, died Thursday.

Ennis, who earned the respect of his colleagues on both sides, served as MP for Portland Western from 1989 to 2007, representing the People’s National Party.

An economist and farmer, Ennis had served as president of the Kingston College Old Boys’ Association (KCOBA) Ennis remained a strong supporter of his alma mater and worked tirelessly to strengthen the KC community.

“A committed servant of the people, Errol Ennis also served as junior minister in the Ministry of Agriculture, where he championed issues critical to rural development and the farming community,” said the Union of Technical and Supervisory Personnel (UTASP) in a tribute to the former politician.

He was a former vice-president of the Jamaica Development Bank, where his leadership and vision contributed to fostering economic growth and development initiatives across the island.

“Beyond his distinguished political career, Mr Ennis was a proud member of the Royal Air Force, exemplifying discipline from an early stage in his life,” UTASP said.

“Errol Ennis will be remembered as a patriot and a man deeply committed to the progress of Jamaica and the upliftment of its people. The people of West Portland, the Kingston College family, and all those whose lives he touched join in mourning the loss of a true servant leader,” said the union.
