KINGSTON, Jamaica – A man was found dead and an illegal firearm seized during an alleged confrontation with the police on Content Avenue off Waltham Park Road in St Andrew on Wednesday.

The dead man has been identified as 23-year-old Shacqol Pounal, otherwise called ‘Track Star’, a warehouse attendant from Content Avenue.

Details are still sketchy but information reaching Observer Online indicates that around 5:35 am, police were conducted an intelligence-led operation on Contact Avenue when the incident occurred.

Reports said a 9mm pistol with three rounds of 9mm cartridges was seized from the now-deceased.

Police have disclosed that Pounal was a high-ranking member of a notorious gang from the Content Avenue area. Our newsroom was told that he had been on the police radar for several murders and shootings within the St Andrew South and Central divisions.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM ) has since launched a probe into the fatal shooting.
