HAMILTON, Bermuda (CMC) — Bermuda’s national cricket team will receive a major boost at the upcoming North American Cup, with former West Indies Head Coach Andre Coley joining their coaching staff as a high-performance consultant.

The inaugural tournament, which bowls off this Saturday, will see Bermuda facing Canada, the United States, The Bahamas, and hosts The Cayman Islands.

The experienced Jamaican will work alongside Bermuda’s Head Coach Cal Waldron as part of a partnership between the Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) and Cricket West Indies (CWI).

The collaboration was finalised during the recent ICC Americas Annual Regional Conference in Costa Rica. Coley, who took charge of the West Indies Test team in 2023, expressed enthusiasm about contributing to Bermuda’s preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup Americas Qualifiers.

“I am pleased to support the Bermuda Cricket Board as a consulting coach during the North American Cup. Associate nations bring an exciting brand of cricket, and I look forward to working with the board, coaches, and players as they gear up for upcoming challenges,” he said.

Waldron welcomed Coley’s involvement, calling it a valuable opportunity for player development and tactical growth. “Working with someone of Mr Coley’s calibre will elevate our team’s performance and modernise our high-performance goals. His expertise will benefit both the players and our coaching staff, and I hope this partnership extends beyond this tournament.”

Bermuda’s North American Cup campaign begins on Saturday against Canada, followed by matches against Cayman Islands on Sunday and the USA on Monday. After a rest day, they conclude the group stage against The Bahamas on April 23.
