Aeroplane hijacked in Belize lands safely
BELMOPAN, Belize (CMC) — A flight operated by a private charter aviation company, Tropic Ocean Airways, was hijacked after take-off in Belize on Thursday.
Two people were reportedly injured aboard the aircraft after the lone attacker, who was armed with a knife, took over as the plane left the Ranchito Airstrip in northern Belize Thursday morning.
The attacker reportedly threatened to keep the plane running until it ran out of fuel, and it took a meandering course south toward Belize City before landing.
According to police reports, the flight landed at the Philip Goldson International Airport.
The police have since taken the hijacker into custody, and the injured passengers are being treated.
