GG proclaims April 16 National Kingston College Day
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Governor-General of Jamaica, Sir Patrick Allen, has proclaimed April 16, National Kingston College Day, as the school celebrated its 100th birthday.
The Governor General’s proclamation was read by the school’s chairman, Michael Vaccianna, at the Kingston College Centenary Purple Tie Dinner and Awards at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Mark Golding, who was in attendance at the function, also congratulated KC on its achievement.
“Tonight is a particular auspicious occasion because April 16 on your 100th anniversary, has been proclaimed by the governor general KC Day, who would have thought, that,” said Golding.
In 2019, May 21 was declared Wolmer’s Day on its 290th anniversary.
KC has been celebrating its centenary year in style. On Monday, they were conferred with the Keys to the City of Kingston and held a parade through the city.
KC have been having a grand time celebrating their 100th anniversary with tremendous success on and off the field of play.
The “Famed Purples” won their fourth straight ISSA Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championship in March to add to the Manning Cup and Olivier Shield football titles.
The school also won the under-14 urban and all-island football crowns along with the Under-16 urban and all-island table tennis titles. KC also won the Lacrosse Taino Cup and was victorious in the Math Quiz.
