KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica added two more gold medals among five won on Sunday’s morning session of the 52nd Carifta Games that are currently underway at the Hasely Crawford stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

In addition to the Jamaica Under-20 and Carifta record set in the Under-20 girls’ shot put by Marla Kay Lampart, Michael-Andre Edwards won the Under-20 boys long jump after he posted 7.41m (-0.6m/s).

William MvKinney of the Bahamas was second with 7.36m (0.0m/s), while Barbados’ Teon Haynes repeated his bronze from last year with 7.35m (1.4m/s).

Defending champion Ricoy Hunter had one legal mark, 6.31m (-2.2m/s), and failed to get past the first round.

Meanwhile, Jamaica picked up silver and bronze in the Under-17 girls discus throw. Davika Lewis was second with 40.81m and Jamie-Lee Tulloch was third with 37.65m behind Cayman Islands’ Kaliah Haye, who threw 44.91m.

Two Jamaicans, Robert Miller (51.24 seconds) and Princewell Martin (52.65 seconds), led the qualifying round for the finals of the Under-20 boys 400m finals set for the afternoon session, while Shevaughn Thomas was the second fastest among the Under-20 girls with 58.41 seconds.

Meanwhile, Under-20 girls’ 100m gold medallist Shanoya Douglas is on course to win the double after she qualified for the 200m final set for Sunday afternoon.

Sabrina Dockery, who was disqualified for a false start in the 100m final on Saturday, has a shot at redemption after she also advanced to the medal round.

Tyrece Foreman and Junior Gallimore are also through to the Under-20 boys 200m final, as well as Under-17 boys’ 100m bronze medallist Jaydon Collins and Rhianna Scott in the Under-17 girls 200m.
