Pope Francis leaves a legacy of compassion, humility and faith — Opposition leader
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Mark Golding, Opposition leader and People’s National Party (PNP) president, has extended his condolences on the passing of Pope Francis, who died Monday at 88.
In a late morning statement, Golding expressed profound sorrow at Pope Francis’ passing, stating that his life was “a testament to spiritual devotion, moral clarity and a tireless, progressive commitment to unity and human dignity”.
Noting that the Catholic Church holds a respected place in Jamaican cultural and spiritual life, the PNP president said that for generations, Jamaican Catholics have contributed significantly to nation-building through education, health care, community service, and the arts, guided by the values and teachings of the Holy See.
“To the Catholic community across Jamaica, I offer heartfelt sympathies during this time of reflection and mourning. May you find comfort in the pope’s enduring legacy of compassion, humility and faith,” Golding said.
“May his soul rest in peace, and may his example continue to inspire all who strive for a more just and loving world,” he added.
