Marshall,Tyrice Taylor lower 800m times
JAMAICAN middle distance runners Rivaldo Marshall and Tyrice Taylor both ran personal best times as they finished first and second, respectively, in the men’s 800m elite invitational at the Mount San Antonio College (SAC) Relays in Walnut, California, on Saturday.
With these performances they moved up the Jamaican all-time list.
Both were representing the University of Arkansas and Marshall clocked 1:45.59 minutes in the two-lap race contested on Saturday, bettering his previous best 1:45.86 minutes set in April 2024 and thus moving up to sixth-best Jamaican of all time.
Taylor ran 1:45.81 minutes, his previous best being 1:45.85 seconds, and is now into the Jamaican top 10 for the first time at position number nine.
Throwers Shaiquan Dunn and Racquil Broderick were also winners at the four-day track and field carnival, one of the biggest in the USA.
Dunn, of the University of Southern California (USC), won the Men’s College shot put with a best mark of 17.73m and was third in the discus throw with 54.16m.
Broderick, also of USC, threw 61.74m to win the Men Discus Throw Elite Invitational while Brandon Lloyd of Arizona State University was ninth with 53.01m.
Lloyd was also second in the Men Shot Put Elite Invitational with a mark of 19.87m.
Danielle Sloley, of Arizona State, was seventh in the Women’s Shot Put Elite Invitational with 15.79m.
Rushana Dwyer, of the University of South Florida (USF), was third in the Women’s 400m Elite Invitational, running 52.66 seconds, while Shaquena Foote of San Diego State University was fifth in 52.74 seconds in her first outdoor run of the season.
Marissa Simpson of the University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP) finished third in the Women’s 100m Hurdles Elite Invitational in a time of 13.11 seconds (0.0m/s).
Olympic Games and World Championships relay medallist Briana Williams was third in the Women’s 100m Elite Invitational in 11.43 seconds (-1.3m/s) while placing seventh in the 200m race in 23.25 seconds (-2.4m/s).
Devontie Archer of USF placed fifth in the Men’s 400m Hurdles Elite Invitational with a season’s best 50.25 seconds while Daniella Anglin of South Dakota was sixth in the Women’s College High Jump, clearing 1.70m.
