STETHS’ Hunter gets long jump redemption at Penns
St Elizabeth Technical’s Rikoy Hunter rebounded from back-to-back disappointments to win the high school boys’ long jump at the Penn Relays Carnival at Franklin Field in Philadelphia on Thursday.
Hunter won the event with a leap of 7.30m (-1.7m/s), the COCAA Western Champs winner gaining some redemption after having failed to make the finals at Jamaica’s boys and girls’ athletics championships last month and not progressing past the first round in the under-20 category at last weekend’s Carifta competition in Trinidad.
Calabar’s Romaine Lewis finished second with 7.22m (-0.8m/s); Petersfield’s Sevien Lawrence was fifth with 7.08m (-1.1m/s) and Cornwall College’s Kenomar Jones was sixth with 7.06m.
Kingston College’s Omarian Miller was 13th with 6.34m (-0.9m/s) and Tonies King of St Mary High was 14th with 6.26m (-0.4m/s).
