JAAA names strong squad ahead of World Relays in China
Five-time 100m World Champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, World and Olympic champion Shericka Jackson, as well as Olympic Games men’s 100m silver medallist Kishane Thompson were named for the Jamaican team that will compete at the World Athletics Relay Championships in Guangzhou, China, from May 10 to 11.
Fraser-Pryce, 38, opened her season running a wind-aided 10.94 seconds in the women’s 100m at a Velocity Fest 17 at the National Stadium last weekend.
The team, which was named by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) on Thursday, will see Jamaica participate in five events over two days, both 4x100m and 4x400m and the mixed.
JAAA also recalled veteran Yohan Blake as part of the men’s 4x100m pool.
Thompson leads the men’s 4x100m relay pool that also includes Ackeem Blake, Rohan Watson, Julian Forte and Bryan Levell.
Jackson and Fraser-Pryce are part of the women’s sprint relay pool that also includes the Clayton twins — Olympic finalist Tia, and Tina — US-based Niesha Burgher, World Under-20 100m gold medallist Alana Reid, and Natasha Morrison.
The women’s 4x400m relay pool sees Stacey-Ann Williams, Roneisha McGregor, Shiann Salmon and Kelly-Ann Beckford, while the men’s team will include Rusheen McDonald, Zandrion Barnes, Malik James-King, and Tarees Rhoden.
