Calabar land 4x100m gold at Penn Relays
Calabar High struck gold as they won the high school boys’ 4x100m Championship of America title on Friday at the Penn Relays.
The team ran 39.79 seconds in the final at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, the second day of the 129th staging of the event.
Jamal Stephenson, Shaquane Gordon, Dijon Swaine and Khamani Gordon, held off Washington DC’s Archbishop John Carroll, 40.04 seconds, and Kingston College, 40.16 seconds, for the title.
This was Calabar’s first win in the 4x100m since 2018 and their ninth overall, putting them in a four-way tie for most ever wins in the event. It was also the eighth fastest time ever recorded. The Red Hills Road, St Andrew-based school now owns five of the top 10 times, including the top three times in the event.
Last year’s winners, Excelsior High were fourth with 40.36 seconds, followed by Edwin Allen High- 41,01 seconds, Jamaica College-41.04 seconds, St Elizabeth Technical- 41.06 seconds and William Knibb Memorial- 41.10 seconds.
