Pan Am Boxing president visits Jamaica today
PAN American Boxing Confederation President Elise Seignolle will begin an official five-day visit to the island today.
Seignolle will see the Gloves Over Guns Futures Programme in action on Saturday night at Stanley Couch Gym in Kingston. This end-of-month show will feature boxers from the Cayman Islands and the United Kingdom.
Jamaica Boxing Association President Stephen Jones welcomes Seignolle’s visit and what it means for Jamaica’s status in the sport.
“This weekend marks another historic moment for boxing in Jamaica following the groundbreaking visit from the president of World Boxing [Boris van der Vorst],” he said. “We are honoured to now welcome Elise Seignolle, the president of the Pan American Boxing Confederation, to our shores. Her presence here is not only a vote of confidence in what we are building but it will be a clear signal that Jamaica is fast becoming the heartbeat of Caribbean boxing.
“Elise has also made it very clear that she wants our confederation to lead globally, and we here in Jamaica are ready to play our part acting as the hub of innovation, excellence, and opportunity for the region. So, it’s exciting times ahead and we’re looking forward to welcoming her.”
Seignolle was a boxer for a many years prior to transitioning into administration. She was elected president earlier this year. Jones was also elected to the executive as a director at the same general meeting.
