WATCH: KSAMC pleased with clean-up after carnival road march
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Chief Executive Officer of the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC), Robert Hill has lauded carnival road march organisers for complying with clean-up requirements following the event on Sunday.
“I must say that I am quite impressed over last year. The bands, promoters and organisers did stick to their word and they have partnered under the supervision of the National Solid Waste Management Authority,” Hill said in a video release. “The plan was to have the clean-up crews appended to each band so as the revellers would have passed the clean-up would have begun, so what you are seeing is the evidence of a conjoined effort and one that has borne fruit to ensure the city is back as normal come Monday.”
Clean-up crews were observed in New Kingston up to late Sunday night.
Hill added, however, that there was still work to be done to clean infrastructure defaced by paint during carnival j’ouvert activities earlier in the weekend. Hill had said on Saturday that several residents have complained to the KSAMC regarding their residences being defaced with paint.
“I must say that there has been a vast improvement in terms of the clean-up of the painted areas particularly coming from the complaints of residents along the route that the j’ouvert persons marched,” Hill said.
“There are still some areas that need attention… We realise that some corporate places are still marked with the jouver’t paint in the New Kingston area and in Half Tree as well, and road signs have been impacted by paint,” he continued, adding “We expect that the organisers will take heed and have that rectified in the shortest possible time.”
