Gramps Morgan upbeat over Caribbean Music Award nomination; new album and tour coming
Grammy Award-winning singer Gramps Morgan says he is overwhelmed by his Caribbean Music Awards 2025 nomination for Male Reggae Artiste of the Year.
The third staging of the event is scheduled for August 28 in Brooklyn, New York.
“The nomination means so much. It’s the first time I’m being nominated as a solo act for this particular award show. It is always a joy to be recognised and know that people are watching the growth of any artiste, so I am extremely happy about it and looking forward to attending the event in New York,” Gramps told Observer Online on Monday.
He added, “This (the nomination) is something I am going to celebrate and enjoy for the next couple of days.”
The veteran entertainer and member of the group Morgan Heritage has a lot to celebrate over the past few weeks. He not only released a children’s audio book called The Gingerbread Mon, but he recently wrapped up a few performances in the Caribbean.
In late March, he performed in the Cayman Islands at the Capella Music Festival alongside Alaine, Nailah Blackman and Ky-Mani Marley.
He also shared the stage with his sons Jemere and Priel Morgan.
“Performing with my sons is a joy. I really enjoyed Cayman,” said Gramps.
On April 20, Gramps shared the stage with Stephen Marley at the Tobago Rhythm and Soul Festival. The event also featured Buju Banton and Wayne Wonder among others.
“The appreciation and love for the music, you hear it from the people. It’s always an incredible experience. Every performance is different but those two (Cayman and Tobago) were memorable, when I think about it. I’m also excited for people to share my audio book called The Gingerbread Mon. It truly is a one-of-a-kind project and I’m looking forward to attending school and reading the book in the very near future,” Gramps explained.
Gramps is also working on his follow up album to 2021’s Grammy nominated Positive Vibration.
“Yes, I’m in the studio working on a follow up project for my Grammy nominated album Positive Vibration. I don’t want to say too much but it is coming soon. I’m also preparing my sons Jemere Morgan and Priel Morgan’s project. They’re working in the studio now with Damian Marley. We also have a Morgan Heritage European tour coming up for the summer, it will be a very emotional tour over there,” Gramps disclosed.
