MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Communication studies students at the Manchester-based Northern Caribbean University (NCU) in celebration of World Laughter Day this Sunday, May 4, are encouraging the public to embrace the importance of comedy to evoke laughter.

The group of students have even planned to bring across amusement to commemorate World Laughter Day by hosting “a laughter-filled” brunch event at the Naje-Ante Restaurant on Ward Avenue in Mandeville.

“The festivities kick off at 1:30 pm and will feature the witty and entertaining comedian Elias Fennel,” a statement from the media students read.

“Titled Soulful Sips and Sounds, the event promises a joyful blend of humor, live music, and uplifting energy,” according to the release.

Fennel will take centre stage with his comedic performance, accompanied by the melodic talents of Matthew O’Connor, Nioka Grant, and Kaylia Walker—all working together to spark unity across Jamaica through the healing power of laughter.

Tickets are available for purchase at Naje-Ante Restaurant and NCU’s Department of Communication Studies in Mandeville.

World Laughter Day was established in 1998 by Dr Madan Kataria to explore how laughter contributes to better health and well-being. The day underscores a key truth: laughter is more contagious and fulfilling when shared with others.
