PREMIER LEAGUE SHOWDOWNS: Man City vs Wolves, Chelsea vs Liverpool

PREMIER LEAGUE SHOWDOWNS: Man City vs Wolves, Chelsea vs Liverpool

As expected, Liverpool wrapped up a record-equalling 20th Premier League title last weekend when they defeated Tottenham and will tackle Chelsea this Sunday, while Manchester City will be aiming to secure a Champions league spot when they host in-form Wolves at home later today.

Event # 1 – EPL – Man City vs Wolves – 2:00PM

After reaching a third straight FA Cup final, Manchester City will continue their push for a Champions League spot when they host the Premier League’s most in-form side, Wolves, at the Etihad today. Seeking a top-four finish, Man City have won their last three League games and saw off Nottingham Forest 2-0 last weekend as they stroll to yet another cup final, but also lost their league title in the process. However, before Man City can think about the FA Cup final, they must first try and secure at least a top five spot, which is the bare minimum for Champions League qualification following their sub-par campaign. Surprisingly, victory over Wolves would see Manchester City record four straight Premier League wins for the first time since the opening four matches of the season, such has been their unusual inconsistency this campaign.

Meanwhile, Wolves, the hottest team in the Premier League in recent times, will travel to the Etihad, aiming to continue their excellent form as they have won all of their last six league matches on the trot — the joint-longest winning run of any team in the league so far this season. Indeed, only once have Wolves ever won seven straight league matches in the Premier League and that was over 80 years ago, so this impressive Wolves side are remarkably close to making club history. With that said, Wolves have had a poor record against Man City. Since the double over them in the 2019/20 campaign, they have lost eight of nine league meetings. However, with their recent upturn in form, Wolves have won their last four away leagues matches and will arrive at the Etihad high on confidence.

Key Stats

• Man City – Manchester City have won their last four league games since drawing 0-0 with rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on April 6. Man City have scored exactly twice in six of their last eight matches, winning 2-1 on each occasions.

• Wolves – Wolves have won all of their last five league games and have also won their last four away matches. Wolves have scored in their last 13 matches in all competitions.

• Both sides – Since doing the double of City in the 2019/20 season, Wolves have lost 8 of their last nine meetings against Man City.

The betting Tip: Draw.

Event # EPL – Chelsea vs Liverpool– 10:30AM

Stampford Bridge will play host to a pivotal Premier League clash on Sunday, with Chelsea aiming to continue their strong home form when they host the league leaders and Premier League champions-elect, Liverpool. Indeed, Chelsea are unbeaten at home since December and are still fighting for a Champions League spot as they currently sit fifth in the table, but just two points behind third-placed side Newcastle. With that said, Chelsea have been in excellent form at home and are unbeaten at home against the big six teams since the opening weekend of the season, and will now look to end a four-year winless streak against Liverpool. With that said, Chelsea have shown signs of improvement, recently winning three, drawing one, and losing just one of their last five matches, this type of form could see them ending their four-year drought against a Liverpool team that has little to play for after they secured the Premier League title last weekend.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s remarkable season reached fever-pitch last weekend when they defeated Tottenham 2-1 at Anfield to secure a record equalling 20th Premier League title alongside their rivals Manchester United. Indeed, Liverpool have been by far the best team in the league this season, losing just twice so far this season, once at home and once on the road. When both teams met earlier this season at Anfield, Liverpool won 2-1 and will be aiming to maintain their dominance over a Chelsea side that they have gone unbeaten against for four years — the last time Liverpool tasted defeat against Chelsea came back in March 2021 at Anfield, a 1-0 loss.

Key Stats

• Chelsea – Chelsea are unbeaten at home since December and have gone unbeaten against the big six sides in the league since the opening weekend of the season.

• Liverpool – Liverpool are winless away from home against Chelsea in their last three matches, their last away win against Chelsea came back in 2020. However, they have won seven of their last eight league matches.

• Both sides – Chelsea have gone winless against Liverpool for the last four years and are winless against the Reds in their last three meetings.

The betting Tip: draw.
