Run Julie Run restores pride with thrilling win in Legal Trophy feature
After a disappointing fifth-place finish in the Ian Levy Cup on April 5, 2025, Run Julie Run bounced back impressively on Sunday, April 27, with a thrilling win in the $1.4-million Legal Trophy.
The Ian Parsard trainee was the overwhelming favourite in the Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward, and she didn’t disappoint, showcasing her endurance and skill.
Run Julie Run cruised home by 2¾ lengths, stopping the clock at 1:57.0 over 9 furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m).
Jockey Reyan Lewis expertly guided her to victory, allowing her to relax behind leaders Geolithic (Wesley Henry) and
Neo Star (Richie Shakes) before taking over from the three-furlong marker.
Lewis praised Run Julie Run for a very outstanding performance.
“The instructions were very simple. Two stable horses in the race, Run Julie Run and Geolithic, and I knew that Geolithic is a leader and so I didn’t have to run down the headline.
“I just had Run Julie Run in a relaxing pace and took over from the three-furlong marker and that was that,” Lewis said in a post-race interview.
Lewis added: “She gave me the kick that I wanted. She is a very nice horse and I can’t take anything from her. I wasn’t worried about any other runners in the race.”
Lewis held Run Julie Run off the pace a bit, skilfully navigating the field, stalking early leaders Geolithic and Neo Star around the clubhouse turn and onto the main track. Run Julie Run maintained a comfortable gallop down the backstretch, before settling into second place behind Geolithic as they entered the half-mile turn.
As they approached the distance, Run Julie Run took control, unleashing a surge of speed that left the competition behind. With ease, she cruised past the field, securing a convincing win in the Legal Trophy.
