Runaway Star to shine bright in The Kingston

The highly anticipated The Kingston, the final stop on the ‘Road to the Triple Crown’ for native-bred three-year-old colts and geldings, is set for Sunday, May 4, 2025. Eleven talented runners will compete over 7½ furlongs (1,500m) for a purse of $4 million. Given the quality of the field, this Graded Stakes contest promises to be an exciting affair from start to finish.

Let’s take a closer look at each runner and their chances of winning. Who will emerge victorious?

1. SECRET SENSATION: (3 ch c by Sensational Slam – Secret Cat) – The only maiden in the race, and it looks like that status will remain unchanged after the race. No strong reasons to believe Secret Sensation will upset the form.

2. RUNAWAY STAR: (3 ch c by Northern Giant – Runaway Gal) – Produced a strong performance in the Prince Consort Stakes to win but was disqualified due to causing interference and intimidation to promoted winner
Honour Prince. With Honour Prince not participating, Runaway Star might have a clear path to victory. His form and training suggest he is the top contender here.

3. MY ECLIPSE : (3 b c by Sensational Slam – My Episode) – No chance of winning this race. His form or pedigree doesn’t indicate My Eclipse will be competitive.

4. SENSATIONAL SOUL: (3 ch c by Soul Warrior – Red Gold) – Bred to get a distance of ground, which suits this race. However, Sensational Soul seems to lack the class of top contenders. Expected him to run well but unlikely to win.

5. MR LEE: (3 gr c by Spieth – Kipling Weekend) – Not a chance, even with a legendary namesake. His performance history doesn’t suggest Mr Lee will make an impact.

6. I’M OUTSTANDING: (3 b c by Bold Conquest – Wheels of Law) – Won last time out, but repetition of that win is unlikely.

7. BOSS MAN: (3 b c by Bern Identity – Miss Boss Lady) – Will likely be left behind in this race. His form or pedigree doesn’t indicate Boss Man will be a factor.

8. STRONG MIND: (3 b c by Casual Trick – Charming Beauty) – Has been disappointing lately. His recent form hasn’t been impressive, so betting on Strong Mind is a bit of a risk.

9. BROMPTON BOY: (3 b c by Casual Trick – Eye Candy) – Safe to bypass. No strong reasons to consider
Brompton Boy as a contender.

10. I DREAM AGAIN: (3 b c by Soul Warrior – Lady Najariya) – Prompted the pace but finished fourth in the Prince Consort Stakes. I Dream Again has shown potential and might make another brave run, making them worth watching.

11. MARK MY IDENTITY: (3 ch c by Bern Identity – Sweet Like Sugar) – Finished third in the Prince Consort Stakes and might appreciate the extended trip. However, Mark My Identity looks well-held by Runaway Star, making their chances less likely.
