The following is an open letter to Prime Minister Andrew Holness.

Prime Minister Holness, I write this letter with deep concern for the future of Jamaica.

Recent elections in Trinidad and Tobago and Canada have sent a clear message: Citizens everywhere are demanding renewal.

In Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wisely stepped aside to make room for Mark Carney, recognising that fresh leadership was necessary to preserve the party’s chances. In Trinidad and Tobago, the results reflected growing impatience and exhaustion. They chose someone who was long written off and left in the scrap heap.

Prime Minister, it is becoming increasingly clear that your message, while often well articulated, is no longer connecting with the public as it once did. There is a sense, even among long-time supporters, that too much is being said and too little is being felt. Your speeches and interviews are frequent, truly just too much, and the impact is diminishing. Many no longer listen. The trust deficit is widening, and attempts to fix it through communication alone are proving ineffective.

This is not a call rooted in enmity, it is a sober recognition that Jamaica’s survival may now depend on a strategic political transition. A graceful, timely resignation would allow the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) to reset, bring in fresh leadership, and signal to Jamaicans that you are serious about putting the country first. It would also affirm your legacy as a leader who prioritised national interest over personal power.

Prime Minister, you have served Jamaica with dedication, and your contributions will be remembered. But sometimes the most powerful decision a leader can make is to step aside, clear the space, and allow renewal.
