ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — The Strathmore Gardens Children’s Home was gifted a 1,000-gallon water storage tank on Tuesday courtesy of the Pamputtae Single Mothers Foundation chaired by dancehall artiste Pamputtae.

Born Eveana Henry, the artiste says she had seen the poor state of the old tanks and knew she had to help. She explained that the donation was part of her mission to give love for Mother’s Day.

“The foundation is doing it big for Mother’s Day and this is all a part of the project — I want to put some smiles on the youth’s dem face, because they’re in a home they don’t have their biological mother and everyone needs love, even getting a water tank can be love,” she said.

Henry said she was told the home was in need by a friend of hers and immediately tried to assist. The proprietors of the home, which houses 74 wards, were extremely grateful.

“The donation means a lot to the children here at the children’s home as we have some serious water issues so this tank will help us in adequately providing more water for them,” said Isoline Sergeant Barrett.

Sergeant Barrett indicated that the previous water arrangement was not efficient.

“We had to be calling the water truck very often before because of the limited tank we had, so this one will help to sustain us,” she said, adding ⁠“I would like to say a big thank you to Pamputtae for this donation we really appreciate it!”

The 1,000 -gallon tank was purchased for the Spanish Town facility that same day before being delivered to the private children’s home.

Sergeant Barrett said while she was extremely grateful, if any other individuals wants to donate there was a long list of needs at the home.

“We currently have 74 children in our care and we are a private facility, so food items, toiletries and detergent can never be enough for us. We are also in need of a washing machine and a dryer,” she said.

Henry is hoping she will be able to provide them just as she secured the water tank. But she didn’t do it alone.

“I reached the point where I can buy the tank and friends came together with me,” she explained adding that she had sponsors who preferred to stay out of the limelight but expressed her thanks to them regardless.

Henry has been vocal about her reality as a single mother even penning a song called Single Mother and passion to help women and children in the same situation.

The artiste is also having a competition for Mother’s Day with a top prize of $100,000, second prize of a spa getaway and a makeover as the third prize.

Mothers are instructed to take a video with their kids using the song Single Mother and upload to social media with the most likes getting the top prize.
