Spanish Town Primary grab lead at INSPORTS Central Championships
Spanish Town Primary raced to a 45.5-point lead after 11 finals on day two of the INSPORTS/Devon Biscuits Primary Schools Central Championships at the GC Foster College on Tuesday.
Spanish Town racked up 118 points and was well clear of defending champions Naggo Head Primary on 72.5 and Greater Portmore on 68 points. St John’s Primary with 36 and Ascot with 34 rounded out the top five.
The top 10 is completed by Angels Primary in sixth on 32.5 points, Jericho Primary (27), Davis Primary (26), Kensington Primary (22), and Southborough Primary (16).
There will be 29 finals on the last day, and based on what transpired on Tuesday, Spanish Town Primary look set to dethrone Naggo Head as champion.
In the first final of the championship, Shanae Thomas of Naggo Head won the girls’ cricket ball open with a throw of 41.79m. Dwaynea Parker of Time and Patience Primary School was second with 39.80m, and Greater Portmore’s Asheka Ivey was third with 38.29.
In the boys’ cricket ball open, Dontae Williams of Jericho Primary won with a massive 64.60m. Williams had broken the record in the preliminaries on Monday with 65.80m.
Antonio Smith of Spanish Town with 47.58m was second, ahead of Timario Brown of Salt Savannah Primary with 45.50m.
Camoy Jones of Spanish Town Primary captured the girls’ high jump open with a leap of 1.35m ahead of her teammate Kelly-Ann Collins with 1.30m. Anilya Harriott of Angel’s Primary was third with 1.25m.
But after that, Spanish Town showed their superiority, winning six of the 4×100 relays.
