Canadian expert joins investigation into death of 11-y-o girl in Guyana
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — Guyana’s Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the appointment of a Canadian investigator to assist with the ongoing probe into the death of 11-year-old Adriana Younge.
The move is in line with a commitment made by Guyana’s President, Dr Irfaan Ali, to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.
In a statement released Thursday morning, the ministry confirmed that Leonard McCoshen, a retired officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), has been engaged by the Government of Guyana.
McCoshen is a trained and certified expert in homicide and suspicious death investigations.
With over three decades of experience, McCoshen has dedicated 20 years of his career to the RCMP’s Serious Crimes Branch within the Major Crimes Unit.
During this time, he was responsible for investigating complex and sensitive cases, primarily focusing on homicides and incidents where foul play was suspected.
Throughout his career, McCoshen has successfully supervised and coordinated more than 200 investigations, including cases involving murder, kidnapping and other serious offences.
The ministry said his extensive experience and credentials are expected to significantly contribute to uncovering the circumstances surrounding Adriana’s untimely death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
