Guardsman Group champions literacy at Clan Carthy Primary
THE Guardsman Group joined scores of entities across the island on Tuesday in reaching out to students as part of the support for Read Across Jamaica Day 2025.
In its initiative, Guardsman Group’s leadership team and staff dedicated time to reading with students at Clan Carthy Primary School, a long-standing partner of the group.
The day was filled with engaging stories, interactive reading sessions, and devotionals, designed to emphasise the significance of literacy in shaping young minds and future opportunities while encouraging a passion for reading among the 630 students and 40 staff members at Clan Carthy Primary.
“At Guardsman Group, we recognise that literacy is the foundation of a brighter future for our youth. By contributing to Read Across Jamaica Day, we aim to nurture creativity, foster academic success, and provide our next generation with the tools they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
“It’s a privilege to support the students of Clan Carthy Primary and play a role in shaping their educational journey,” said David Whittaker, deputy group managing director of Guardsman Group.
Whittaker was joined by Guardsman Group staffers including Roxan Wais-Shirley, general manager marketing sales and customer service; Tyrone Mullings, regional manager; and Tamara Smith vice-president, integrated operations.
“We are deeply grateful to Guardsman Group for its continued support and commitment to our students’ growth. The group’s participation in Read Across Jamaica Day serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of reading in opening doors to new opportunities.
“We look forward to a day of inspiration and excitement, as our students engage with new stories and ideas, helping to fuel their imaginations and dreams,” said Winsome Reid, principal of Clan Carthy Primary School, at the start of the session.
In addition to its Read Across Jamaica Day presence at Clan Carthy Primary, Guardsman Beryllium extended its support to St Aloysius Primary School in central Kingston.
Guardsman Group also extended its outreach to Liberty Learning Centre, where Shanna Shirley, vice-president – systems integration, south-eastern region and chair of the school’s board, took part in the day’s activities.
Shirley read to students, using the power of storytelling to inspire, educate, and uplift young minds in support of the national literacy initiative.
