PNP appoints Steve McGregor as deputy spokesperson on citizen security
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Retired senior superintendent of police, Steve McGregor, has been appointed the People’s National Party (PNP) deputy spokesperson on citizen security.
President of the People’s National Party, Mark Golding, announced McGregor’s appointment in a media statement on Thursday.
“Mr McGregor is a highly respected voice in national security. His practical understanding of both policing and community dynamics will add great value to the PNP’s commitment to creating safer communities. I am confident that his experience and integrity will support our mission to tackle crime with compassion and common sense,” Golding said.
Meanwhile, Opposition Spokesperson on National Security, Peter Bunting, said, “I welcome Steve McGregor’s input as someone with comprehensive knowledge of policing and a proven practitioner of the policing approach that we advocate—balancing crime control efforts with crime prevention initiatives through social investments in communities. The PNP supports law enforcement and is committed to evidence-based, people-focused policymaking in citizen security. Steve’s appointment provides bench depth in the area of citizen security and demonstrates our readiness to govern.”
McGregor retired from the Jamaica Constabulary Force in January 2024 and most recently served as director of security at the University of the West Indies. McGregor is also the PNP candidate for Central Kingston. He replaced Lorane Ferguson, who withdrew as a PNP candidate.
