Dane Nelson kicks off Century Mile season with thrilling three-timer
Jamaican jockey Dane Nelson achieved a notable three-timer on the opening day of racing at Century Mile in Edmonton, Canada, on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Following this success, Nelson expressed his goal to reclaim the championship title, a feat he accomplished in 2023.
Nelson started with the first race when he piloted the Gonzalo Anderson-trained Thatswhatiamherefor going five furlongs. The two-time international champion rider followed with his second win in race seven atop Alluring Ali, also for trainer Anderson. The Nelson triple was completed in race nine, the final on the Century Mile opening card, on Bootiful Rose, trained by Carson Frey.
“It is an amazing feeling to win three races on the opening day. I am just happy that I could get off the mark this season quickly, as it goes to show you that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible,” Nelson told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“My main goal is to win the championship title again this year. I feel strong and determined to make this year a great one. Nothing beats hard work. Winning races is always good as it builds your brand, and I want to continue building my brand. With God all things are possible,” Nelson added.
Nelson leads the title race ahead of Scott Williams, who rode two winners. Brian Boodramsingh, Keihton Notera, Enrique Gonzalez, and Alexander Marti all have one winner each.
“I want to thank the trainers, owners, grooms, my fans, and family who continue to support me throughout my career. Also, I want to big up to my wife who is always by my side no matter what. She is my biggest supporter,” Nelson said.
Meanwhile, Tevin Foster, who has recently relocated to the Century Mile racetrack in Canada, kicked off his riding activities also on Saturday, May 3, with two mounts.
Foster’s first ride occurred in the fifth race of nine, where he rode We The Fringe, trained by Seymour Biggs. We The Fringe secured a second-place finish, trailing They Call Me Tom.
In his second outing of the day, Foster competed in the ninth race on Wheelsupinthirty, also trained by Biggs, and finished fourth among eight contenders.
