Frazsiers Whip look to extend lead in JWPL
Arnett Gardens tackle Real MoBay at Anthony Spaulding Complex
DEFENDING champions Frazsiers Whip FC could extend their lead atop the Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) points table when they play away to sixth-placed Mile Gully FC to close out the first round of the competition this afternoon.
Frazsiers Whip are on 27 points, two more than second-placed Cavalier FC who have already completed their first-round schedule.
A win for the leaders will see them go five points clear.
Cavalier have been perfect from their nine games and lead all contenders in every statistical area, including goals scored and conceded. They will be up against a Mile Gully team that is on a three-game unbeaten run.
Frazsiers Whip have been made to work hard in their last two outings, recording 2-1 wins over Cavalier and Arnett Gardens, respectively. Those results could give Mile Gully some hope, especially playing at home.
Third-placed Arnett Gardens will seek to rebound from their loss last week when they host Real MoBay AFC at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex. They will hope to cut into the gap between them and second-placed Cavalier.
Real MoBay have been outscored 1-19 over their last three games since beating Federal United to get their first win of the season. Real MoBay will hope they can restrict the competition’s third most prolific attack which has tallied 39 goals so far.
Fourth-placed Los Perfectos FC are at home to Springers United in the second game of the double-header at Brooks Park.
Springers are coming off their first win of the season after beating Proven Girls at home last week. They are off the foot of the table for the first time this season and will hope they can build on that performance.
Los Perfectos FC, who are coming off a weekendof rest, have won their last three games and will also have momentum on their side.
UWI Women’s FC, on 13 points, are to host WiFi United (11 points) in a game that could be closer than some expect.
Both teams will still harbour ideas of being able to break into the top four.
