Stacey Mirander impresses with cover of Roberta Flack’s ‘Feel Like Making Love’
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Florida-based reggae fusion singer Stacey Mirander is almost reverent in her praise of the vocal brilliance of late soul superstar Roberta Flack. That’s why she put her all into her reggae cover version of Flack’s timeless cut, ‘Feel Like Making Love’.
“Roberta Flack has long been one of my greatest inspirations. Her music radiates beauty, soul, and grace—and it’s a true honour to share my reggae cover of this timeless classic with the world. It’s a nice vibes, you know, said Mirander.
Her version of the song was officially released on music download platforms like Spotify and Apple Music last week.
“I grew up listening to Roberta Flack’s voice—sultry, sweet, and sophisticated and always raising the consciousness of the human condition. Roberta used her voice as a force for change, singing for justice, for understanding, for the upliftment of people who needed to be heard. Her sound carried a real vibe, and I’ve always admired her, especially as a powerful and pioneering female artiste,” Mirander continued.
Released in 1974, Flack’s version became one of the greatest musical successes that year as it soared to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, making it Flack’s third #1 single. It also made her the first female vocalist since 1940 to top the chart in three consecutive years. The song has since been covered by R&B and jazz artists including D’Angelo, Roy Ayers, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Lou Rawls, Isaac Hayes, and George Benson.
Stacey Mirander is gearing to release a raft of singles this summer including the delightful cut ‘Call You Mine’ and the juicy sexed-up girls-night-out anthem, ‘Lit Up’.
She kicked off her solo career after being encouraged by producer Bulby York and Solomon ‘Triple Ess’ Salmon into recording a song in the studio, ‘Hear Oh Lord’, which was released in April 2023 on Bulby York producer’s album ‘Time and Color’.
She enjoys being a performer, exploring the creative limits of her alter ego.
“Everyone has different sides to them. When I am performing I bring out a different version of me who is more self-expressive. I am an artiste who has a great passion for music, a rich musical palette dabbling with reggae, with a mixture of World beats,” she said.
She is presently working on her debut EP.
