‘Messi’ held, charged after illegal gun found in bag
The man, 23-year-old Fabian Thomas, otherwise called ‘Messi’, from Upper Oxford Street in west Kingston, was held after he was accosted and searched, police said.
Thomas has since been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.
Reports are that around 10:10 am, the St Andrew Central police were on an operation in the area when they saw Thomas walking along the road and acting in a suspicious manner.
He was stopped by the police and a search was conducted of his person and a black duffle bag he was wearing.
During the search, police said, a black and silver Sturm Ruger 9mm pistol with a magazine containing thirteen 9mm cartridges was found in the duffle bag.
Thomas was later taken into custody at the Half-Way -Tree Police Station.
