Trial date set for men on ammo charge
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A trial date has been set for two men charged with unauthorised possession of ammunition, although the ballistic certificate central to the case has not yet been submitted.
Donald Mitchell and Aldine Reynolds appeared before Parish Judge Kaysha Grant-Pryce in the St James Parish Court on Monday. They are represented by attorneys Chumu Paris and Henry McCurdy, respectively.
During the hearing, the court was advised that the ballistic certificate — a crucial document used to verify whether the seized items meet the legal definition of ammunition — remains outstanding.
The court clerk explained that the certificate is currently at Freeport Police Station, having been collected by the investigating officer who is now on sick leave.
An escort statement, also not yet submitted, was briefly noted, though the absence of the ballistic report drew more attention from the court.
Despite the missing documents Judge Grant-Pryce scheduled the matter for trial on June 17, and extended bail for both accused.
The charges stem from an incident on June 6, 2024, when a white Nissan motor car entered the Montego Bay Police Station compound at approximately 10:00 pm. One of the defendants allegedly exited the vehicle carrying a brown bag, which he was seen discarding near a perimeter wall.
While the bag’s contents were not disclosed during the hearing, police reportedly discovered two rounds of ammunition hidden beneath one of the vehicle’s front seats during a subsequent search.
Mitchell and Reynolds were later arrested and charged.
