From a passion for helping others, to a ‘Passion for Fashion’
KINGSTON, Jamaica- Before he migrated to the United States in 2010, dancehall artiste Kirky D would often come to the assistance of others in need.
He continued his passion for giving back when he hosted a weekly event in Connecticut, USA, called Exposure, which shone the spotlight on emerging reggae and dancehall talent in the tri-state.
“Giving back has always been a part of my life. It gives me satisfaction to just put a smile on someone’s face and knowing that the little that you do can impact their lives,” Kirky D told Observer Online.
This Saturday, May 17, he will again host his annual birthday celebration called Passion for Fashion, which takes place at Tropix on Main Street in Hartford, Connecticut.
For this staging, Kirky D says it will be a memorable event.
“Because of how I dress and carry myself, I was always called a trendsetter in fashion, and so I decided to keep my birthday celebration each year, and I have gotten support from a lot of music industry players like Kayla Di Diva, Galaxy P, Mega Banton, Mr Peppa, Ikaya, Ras Ghandi and Kashu and several others,” said Kirky D.
Saturday’s event, he says, “patrons can expect lots of fun, fashion, entertainment, a violence-free atmosphere, good vibes, togetherness with lots of surprises.”
Rast X Dappa, DJ Shane, Sky Level Movements and Emperor are scheduled to provide musical juggling at the event. Kayla Di Diva and Carter are the hosts of the event.
Kirky D’s latest single, Finally, a collaboration with Kayla Di Diva, will see its official video release shortly.
Prior to migrating 15 years ago, Kirky D resided in the community of Waterhouse in Kingston. He also lived in Port Maria, Cockburn Pen and Portmore.
